How it works
Selling price is Cost × (1 + Markup% ÷ 100). Profit is Selling price − Cost.
Example
A cost of 700 with a 30% markup gives a selling price of 910 and a profit of 210.
Assumptions & limitations
Markup is calculated on cost, which gives a different result to margin (calculated on selling price) for the same numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Is markup the same as margin?
No. A 30% markup on cost is not the same as a 30% margin on revenue — margin will always be a smaller percentage for the same profit.
