How it works
Energy use in kilowatt-hours (kWh) is: Energy = (Power in watts × Quantity × Hours) ÷ 1000. Cost is then Cost = Energy × Electricity rate per kWh. Monthly and annual figures scale the daily result by your days-per-month and 365 days respectively.
Example
A 1,500W appliance run for 3 hours a day uses 4.5 kWh per day. At a rate of 0.15 per kWh, that's 0.675 per day, roughly 20.25 over a 30-day month, and about 246 over a year.
Assumptions & limitations
This calculator does not use a fixed electricity rate for any country — rates differ widely by provider, tariff plan, time of day and region, even within the same country. Standing charges, taxes and tiered pricing are not included. Check a recent utility bill for your own rate.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my electricity rate?
Your electricity bill or your utility provider's website will list the rate per kWh (sometimes called a "unit rate" or "tariff").
Does this include standing charges or taxes?
No. This calculator estimates usage-based cost only. Standing charges, taxes and tiered pricing structures vary by provider and are not included.
What if my appliance has variable power draw?
Use the appliance's average running wattage, often listed on its rating label or manual, rather than its peak or startup wattage.
